At least six people were killed in a series of alleged bombings and shootings outside Sarinah Department Store at Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Thursday.
The first blast was reported at 10:50 in the parking Starbucks in the building adjacent to Skyline Sarinah, and an explosion followed by six more in the next 10 minutes, even at the police station at the intersection of Jalan Thamrin and Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim, said witnesses.
Police cordoned off the area and are currently involved in the shooting, although it is not clear who the author. Authorities closed many Jalan Thamrin.
Police say they are still looking for the suspect armed men believed to be hiding in the building Horizon.
Police were also seen entering the Sarinah McDonald's restaurants in the building around 00:15, with gunfire still ringing from the area.
Starbucks, located in areas frequented by foreigners as well as office workers from Indonesia, targeted by what appeared to be a number of possible suicide bombings in the morning. Media reports suggest the grenade could have also been used in the attack.
Six people were killed in bombings and shootings, including a police officer who witnesses said was shot by a sniper. A police spokesman said the attackers were on foot and motorcycles, but can not say how much.
Another police officer said there was evidence that some shots were fired by a sniper in office buildings in the area, although this can not be confirmed. Details are still scarce, but the Jakarta Globe continue to update the story as more details come.
